LMHB hosts a seminar on IPR in Tartu Science Park
Our office’s IPR specialists recently held a seminar in co-operation with Tartu Science Park. The invited audience included start-up and operating IT firms, technology and research companies, as well as scholars and academic institutions developing technology.
After partner Peeter Kutman had welcomed the guests, he gave a short presentation of our office’s practices and introduced our IPR track portfolio. Then followed senior associate Kairi Kurisoo, who gave a short overview of what intellectual property is, and what its main areas include, before introducing objects, protection, and infringement of copyright in more detail. Senior associate Maria Carlsson from our partner office Borenius & Kemppinen in Helsinki carried out a case analysis to help entrepreneurs consider crucial and legally binding aspects in order to avoid copyright disputes.
Next, a specialist from the Estonian Patent Library introduced a due diligence pilot project aimed at small and medium sized companies, with patent officer Mr Margus Sarap answering questions in connection with industrial design.
Our IPR team supplies a wide range of services for protecting and increasing the value of intellectual property portfolios. We also offer long-term experience in intellectual property rights-related litigation practice. This spring, our IPR specialists published a handbook on intellectual property which covers the essence of IPR and contains illustrative references to European Union and international law as well as Estonian and European court practice.
Additionally, our clients benefit from the firm’s successful co-operation with patent agencies, enabling us to fully serve client needs, both in Estonia and in other jurisdictions throughout the world.
