We are pleased to announce that the office’s IP specialists Kairi Kurisoo, Viive Kaur and Pirjo Ant have compiled a textbook about intellectual property.
The textbook, published in the series with the leading Estonian business newspaper Äripäev, is the first textbook written by national authors concentrating on the most important areas of intellectual property. It covers the essence of intellectual property protection and its principal characteristics. Based on illustrative references to European Union and international law as well as Estonian and European court practice, the book offers guidelines for dealing with various topics of copyright, trade mark, invention and industrial design.
The reviewer Urmas Kauler, patent attorney at Patent Agency Turvaja and the President of Estonian National Group of AIPPI, is of opinion that the textbook is a valuable source not only for practicing lawyers but for anyone trying to solve problematic topic related to intellectual property. He notes: “The book is very educative implying us that we are daily surrounded by subjects of intellectual property and being familiar with its principal regulations is as necessary knowledge as reading texts in mother language.”
Linnar Viik, professor of IT College and Member of Council of IT College and European Institute of Innovation and Technology adds that intellectual property is already today inseparable part of daily business activities of enterprises and organisations. Viik says: “Furthermore – protection of intellectual property rights and its regulations shall become the most debated matter of the 21st century. This particular piece of writing helps us to define and give practical evaluation to current situation of intellectual property.”
